"When you used to rhyme like the Fu Schnickens, Nas designed your blueprint who you kiddin???"

Jay - Z - I can't get with that (94)

DMX was the man...

2009 Artists To Watch

I'm an R&B head. This CD is one of the best that I've heard in awhile although it came out in 2007. Production is top notch on this album = high replay value...

My man Brandon Hines - Love Music...Falling in, Falling Out. You should be able to get it on itunes.

The version of the album I have comes with a bonus disc with additional music so I mixed together my favorites.

All of these songs are good but when you listen to the mix you'll notice the standout cuts. "What do I have to do", "Overdose remix ft Rachel Robinson", and "Different ft. Trey Songz" would definitely make the list.

If you don't listen to the whole thing just skip ahead to the 48:55 mark. Best song on the album.

"Let the music critics tell it they will argue that quality R&B and soul music is now a rarity. Digging deep through record collection notables like Marvin Gaye, Jodeci and Luther Vandross, it’s tough to find a new artist that nestles comfortably among the greats.

Cultivated in Motown, Brandon Hines and his refreshingly natural singing talent are campaigning for legendary status. His smooth, baritone vocals command the attention of the ladies and his relatable lyrics are magnetic for the gentlemen. Hines lulls his sultry love songs in a distinct, raspy tone that sets him apart from others in the current music climate. Not only does he offer a soundtrack and a sexy backdrop, but Brandon Hines provides an experience. And he wants you to make love…Music that is.

That’s what Hines and his independent debut, Love Music: Fallin in Fallin Out, have been doing since 2005. The album has sold over 7,000 hard copies and over I-Tunes. Hines has a strong following among the younger crowd, but a classic appeal that transcends generations.

Writing his own lyrics since he was young, Brandon Hines developed a knack for composing songs that evoke emotion. The art of storytelling mixed with his carefully placed rifts and background vocals, result in the no-holds-barred medleys that are edgy and honest.

The bold sound that pours out of Brandon Hines is a product of passion and determination. He quelled his interest in being a musician until a tremendous response from his Howard University peers drove him to pursue his music career. With a growing fan base showering him with
love, Brandon Hines became acquainted with his sound. Hines pegged moody, sultry music as his signature, paired with beats that tell a story by themselves. Synth-heavy, slow-rolling beats are the sturdy framework for songs like “10″ that revert you back to Ginuwine “So Anxious” days.

Brandon Hines works with up and coming producers NEZ & RIO and Miguel Graves. He has worked with R & B singers Trey Songs and Cassie, Troy Taylor, Ryan Leslie and Johnta Austin. Each collaboration has been a catalyst to the other as Brandon Hines is earning his credibility and making a name for himself in the industry.

Hines won the 2006 Who’s Next Award at a major music conference, solidifying the obvious: fans are eager to hear more. Like a steam pot ready to spillover, Brandon Hines and his love experience can hardly be contained. Driven and dedicated to his craft, Brandon is expressing our lives through music. And his music is just like love: once you fall in, it’s hard to fall out.

Check out Brandon’s myspace page and see what all the hype is about.

Jigga who ???

As "I'll Be Down" is playing on my VLC media player its safe to say that this persona Jay-Z created for himself is officially GONE. Volume One is my favorite albums from Jay-Z. From the beats, to the lyrics, everything was on point. "You must Love me"...he paints a picture.

This joint is sick. Jay on some missy elliott video type ish? A case can be made for his swagger jacking.
What songs recently compare to any of these???

The Jigga/ Foxy collab is serious. "How much $ do you need for shopping?"

Jigga on Vol 2...

There wasn't anything harder than this in the 90s. How could 1 dude have it on LOCK ???
5 Times platinum ???

Crooklyn Dodgers - Version 1,2 and 3

They appeared in three separate incarnations since 1994. The first two incarnations recorded for the soundtracks for Spike Lee films, Crooklyn and Clockers, respectively. The theme connecting The Crooklyn Dodgers songs, aside from the Spike Lee films which they were made for, is the topic matter, which tends to comment on the state of affairs in and around urban New York, as well as other issues affecting everyday life; as Jeru spouses "Chips that power nuclear bombs power my Sega". -Wiki

Version 1-Crooklyn

The first group was composed of Buckshot, Masta Ace, and Special Ed. Their one and only record was "Crooklyn," produced by A Tribe Called Quest, and featured in the 1994 film Crooklyn. This song is a good example of mid-1990s hip hop. It contains scratch samples from "Who Got Da Props?" by Black Moon and "The Place Where We Dwell" by Gang Starr. It also features samples of a radio broadcast of a Brooklyn Dodgers game. The music video featured appearances by Brooklyn-born athletes Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson.

Version 2-Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers

The second group was composed of Chubb Rock, Jeru the Damaja, and O.C. Their one and only record was "Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers," produced by DJ Premier, and featured in the 1995 film Clockers. This incarnation was credited as Crooklyn Dodgers '95.

Version 3-Brooklyn In My Mind

The third group consisted of Jean Grae, Mos Def and Memphis Bleek. North Carolina producer 9th Wonder resurrected the group concept in 2007 for a track on his album The Dream Merchant Vol. 2, titled "Brooklyn in My Mind".

Peace. For some reason, this track by Kidz in The Hall has a Philly vibe to it.

Kanye West X Louis Vuitton

PARIS — Marc Jacobs and the Louis Vuitton men’s studio director Paul Helbers have some design competition this season. Kanye West, who was sitting front row at the Vuitton show, has designed a line of five LV sneakers. Only one design, above, was featured in the show — a monochromatic midtop with no frills, save for a quilted flap in the back, all the easier to tuck pants into. “The inspiration came from a jacket with a huge collar in the movie ‘Dune,’ ” West says. “Most sneakers focus on the tongue, so I wanted to do something different.” West knows whereof he speaks: he says he has no idea how many shoes he owns, but he does know that he routinely needs to send shipments off to storage. The LV-meets-Kanye kicks will be available at Louis Vuitton stores in June.

NO LIMIT NO LIMIT NO LIMIT

Throwback...

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Marvin G.-Rehersal

KNOW This.

First off, I'd like to thank KING KG for the invite to speak on things. I'm Kimani, I don't know how my name is gonna show on here, but my SN: Inamiks. Happy New Year yall.

Growing up, my Uncle played jazz music. I had the unique opportunity to see what art was truly like in movement and in sound. I said that to say that our music is a true art form. It is a derivative of different forms, which are compounds of other forms, that in turn are the original forms of forms that we dont even care for. I pray that the "death" of Hip Hop is not seen as that in the coming future with new trends, different takes on fashion, all the way down to being smart and taking care of business (Obama plug). Instead I'd like to see that the bubble gum rap is bringing back an original part of Hip Hop culture in dance, that our artists are modern day blues artists, and that WE take it in appropriately. Keep your eyes and minds open, we're all over, the world loves us, and we need to love culture more. So shots in the air for those keeping the heart beating.

When I asked KING KG what to post on, and he said anything current and related, so I want to leave yall with this: We're on the grow, so we need to focus on being futuristic with it.

Who Taught you to Hate yourself?

This is a snippet of a speech Malcolm X gave, I'm not sure where this speech was made or the date of this speech was presented. The issues Malcolm talks about are still very much relevant in today's society. Listen.

Top Things To Know When Buying A Car

1. Make sure you are getting the right vehicle.

This seems obvious, but you could wind up an unhappy car owner if you haven't thought carefully about how many people and how much luggage or gear you need to carry.

2. Assess the worth of your old car.

Whether you plan to trade it in or sell it, your current car can be an important factor in your budget. Checking the right Web site and maybe your local newspaper will give you a realistic valuation. Selling it directly instead of just trading it may also mean a sizeable difference in what you get for it, though it may take a while longer to reap the proceeds.

3. Decide whether new or used is best for you.

Cars are built better now than in the past, so used cars make a lot of sense. But if you get a rebate or other cost break, the math may be on the side of a new vehicle.

4. Consider whether leasing or buying makes more sense.

Leasing provides lower monthly payments than buying with an auto loan. But it's not for everybody. If you don't have money for a down payment or if you trade your car every two or three years, you may be a good candidate for a lease.

5. Do your homework and set your target price.

The Internet has made it easier than ever to find out the dealer's cost for each vehicle and its options. That's the first step to getting the best possible deal.

6. Shop for money before you shop for the car.

If you plan to buy with a loan, check your credit union or local bank quotes online to find the lowest rate. Getting a pre-approved loan will give you added confidence in negotiating a good price.

7. Negotiating a lease.

In the complicated world of leasing, the dealer will have the upper hand unless you learn the jargon and how to negotiate the various segments of a lease deal.

8. Negotiate a purchase.

If you are doing it yourself, get bids from several dealers, keeping the focus on the dealer's invoice price, which you will know from your research. You may also be able to get bids without going to showroom after showroom.

9. If you hate haggling, consider using a car-shopping service.

Auto-buying services, such as Web sites or discount clubs, make things easy with pretty good, no-haggle prices. But with most of them, you get quotations from only one dealer. Consumer services that shop several dealers near you may deliver even better prices.

10. Don't let the deal-closer close out your savings.

The finance manager isn't there just for the paperwork. He or she wants to sell you high-profit financial and mechanical add-ons. These are seldom worth the money.

Let it rock then read.

Sonic Youth - Patter Recognition. This performance is insane. Expand your musical horizons. Too out there for you to feel? Check the video below and you may have heard the first song.

From a surprise show in Paris in 2006
Taken from wiki...

"Sonic Youth is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1981. Current personnel are Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Steve Shelley (drums) and touring bassist Mark Ibold.

In their early career, Sonic Youth was associated with the No Wave art and music scene in New York City. Part of the first wave of American noise rock groups, the band carried out their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American indie underground that focused more on the DIY ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound. As a result, Sonic Youth was pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock movement.

Sonic Youth has a wide variety of influences, ranging from Patti Smith to John Cage to 13th Floor Elevators. The band has been praised for having "redefined what rock guitar could do," using a wide variety of unorthodox guitar tunings, and preparing guitars with objects like drumsticks and screwdrivers to alter the instruments' timbre."

Wiz Interview....just in case you sleepin'

Honestly, I didn't think he was going to rip it. I was proved wrong. Young Khalifa gives his top 5 baddest females in the game + drops a freestyle.

Wiz Khalifa - Star Power

I don't post alot of mixtapes on here but this mixtape is too dope from beginging to end for me not to post it. Taken from wiki...

"Khalifa released his first mixtape, Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania, in 2005. The mixtape recorded sales in the thousands, leading to his first full length album entitled Show and Prove in 2006. Khalifa was declared an "artist to watch" that year in Rolling Stone magazine. Khalifa has shared the stage with popular artists like Ghostface Killah, Styles P, Lupe Fiasco, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Cham, Little Brother, Clipse, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Lil Scrappy, Mario, T.I., Nas, and Rich Boy. After bringing home “Best Male Artist” and "Lyricist of the Year” at the 1st annual Pittsburgh Hip Hop awards, Khalifa premiered his debut video "Pittsburgh Sound", on various hip-hop fan sites. Khalifa uses, but did not coin, the nickname Pistolvania for Pennsylvania.

In 2007, Khalifa signed to Warner Bros. Records and released two mixtapes through Rostrum Records: Grow Season, hosted by DJ Green Lantern and released on July 4, 2007, and Prince of the City 2, released on November 20, 2007. His debut Warner Bros. single "Say Yeah" reached number 25 on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 music chart and number 20 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks. The song samples the 1999 single "Better Off Alone" by the Dutch electronic music group Alice Deejay. Khalifa's vocals from "Say Yeah" appear near the end of Pittsburgh mash up producer Girl Talk's 2008 album, Feed the Animals, over music from Underworld's "Born Slippy", Usher's "Love in This Club", and the Cure's "In Between Days". Khalifa appeared with The Game, David Banner and Play-n-Skillz at U92's Summer Jam at the USANA Amphitheatre in West Valley City, Utah on August 2, 2008.He will release his Warner Bros. debut album, First Flight, in early-2009."

2009 Artists to watch Vol 2 = Jay.Electronica

Let this Rock then Read. Act Like you know...

The Future of Hiphop. Straight from the N.O.

Jay Electronica.

Exhibit A Transformations (prod. by Just Blaze)

"I pave ways like Nat & Harriet, blast off on troopers who scary yet.. and peel off in a chariot"

Taken from wiki:

Jay Electronica (Je’Ri Allah) (b. circa 1977) is a rapper and producer known for his use of percussionless film soundtracks as a background for raps, his abstract lyrical style, and his associations with Erykah Badu, Just Blaze and Nas. He produced the first track, "Queens Get the Money", on the 2008 Nas album Untitled. The unconventional nature of much of his music, and the lack of conventional release methods for that music, have since 2007 made him the object of much attention. He is perhaps best known for the piece of music Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge).

Signed to Badu's Control Freaq Records, Electronica is yet to release an album or single. His music so far has been made available through the internet, either through being leaked to what URB magazine describes as "obscure web forums", or through an appearing and disappearing myspace page (currently two seem to be in existence, at /jayelect and at /jayelectronica). Badu has questioned whether he ever will release, in her words, "actual albums".

Originally from the Magnolia Projects in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A., he has lived in Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Denver, and Detroit, where he recorded his Style Wars EP with several J Dilla beats, meeting the producer subsequently to ask for permission to use the recordings as a demo. Detroit is also the home of Mr. Porter, who has produced for Electronica, and is where Electronica met engineer Mike "Chav" Chavarria, now a regular collaborator.

Jay Electronica first gained significant attention through Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), made available on a myspace page in 2007. It is 15 continuous minutes of music, without drums, built from Jon Brion's soundtrack to the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. There are five segments or movements, marked by changes in music and mood, raps by Electronica, and occasional snippets of sampled dialogue (children arguing in Farsi, Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka). The first segment is comprised of spoken word by Just Blaze and Erykah Badu describing the artist over piano music.

The nature of the piece of music, along with the nature of its appearance, led to a slow build-up of interest in Electronica as an enigmatic figure. Style Wars gained wider circulation, and other tracks, such as the dream-inspired "Dimethyltriptamine" (see Dimethyltryptamine), appeared. In January 2008, Giles Peterson's 90-minute Giles Peterson Worldwide was devoted to the rapper. Hiphopdx.com in 2008 called him "arguably...the most talked about new emcee last year ... at times...more like a myth or urban legend than an actual rapper", and URB ran a cover story on the artist under the banner "Jay Electronica: A Spotless Mind :: An MC’s mystery revealed", which referred to his wanderings as his being "like some sort of hip-hop Jack Kerouac".

Jeff Weiss' piece for the L.A. Weekly, "Jay Electronica: Much Better Than His Name Would Suggest", acknowledged that the rapper could be fairly described as "one of the most buzzed about rappers of 2008", but attempted to temper the hype somewhat, describing Act 1... as "ambitious, wildly original, if not slightly pretentious", while endorsing only to an extent the comparisons URB had made (referencing an "abstract rhyming style") to rappers like Nas and Pharoahe Monch.

Electronica met Nas during the recording of Nas' Untitled, through Badu's friendship with Nas' wife, Kelis. He gave Nas a CD of his recordings, causing Nas to invite him to produce for the album. Jay Electronica provides the music for the album's opening track, "Queens Get the Money". Nas describes him as having provided "the Jay Electronica sound". He toured North America with Nas, and was part of the Rock The Bells International Festival Series in 2008.

According to URB, Act II: Patents of Nobility will feature Nas, and will be the second of a putative trilogy. URB also reported that digital EPs with both Guilty Simpson and producer 9th Wonder were planned. His most recent music as of November 2008 is the Just Blaze-produced track "Exhibit A (Transformations)".

Step Your Interview Game up...

The Personality Matching Technique

Taken from collegegrad.com...

"This technique is the secret to successful interviewing. If you read nothing else, read this technique. There is a simple key to success in interviewing that very few people utilize. It is the process of mirroring the personality of the person to whom you are speaking, a process that I refer to as “Personality Matching.” It is based upon the proven fact that we like people who are like us. It is the halo effect in action—anyone who is like me must be a good person. Result? Instant rapport.

Any good salesperson is aware of this simple technique. Want evidence? The next time you get a call from a telemarketer, do not hang up. Instead, stick with them a few minutes just to hear their pitch. You will probably know pretty quickly if you are dealing with a “greenie” who is reading from a script or a seasoned professional. If it’s a greenie, give them a polite “no thank you” and hang up. But stick with the pro through the entire call. Why? Because now we are going to have some fun.

In the beginning of the call, talk to them in a very quick and upbeat voice, possibly somewhat higher in pitch. If they are good, they will follow right along with you, matching your tempo and pitch. If not, they are still a greenie, operating in their own little world. End the call. But if they follow along, here comes the fun. Gradually slow down your rate of speaking and lower your voice in both volume and pitch. Guess what? The true pro will follow you all the way down. Surprised? Don’t be. Just as a telemarketing pro is trained to do this (and at this point may not even be conscious of what he or she is doing), any good marketing person does the exact same thing. Whatever the industry, the most successful salespeople are the ones who meet you (the customer) at your level.

In the same way, the best interviewees are the ones who have the ability to meet the interviewers at their level. “Wait a minute, shouldn’t that be the job of the interviewer?” No! Remember, the only interviewers who have actually been trained at interviewing (HR) are usually not the ones who make the final hiring decision. Even some of the best interviewers are totally unaware of this technique or are unwilling to apply it.

So how does one do this “personality matching” thing? First match the voice and then the physical characteristics of the interviewer. In matching the voice, the most important aspect is to match the rate of speaking (tempo); then match the pitch. In matching the physical characteristics, it is most important to match (or at least reflect) the facial expressions, then the posture (sitting back or forward, etc.). Although you should not be trying to “mimic” (like a mime in action)(LMAO), you should attempt to closely match him or her.

Make an effort to meet me at my level and I will attempt to meet you at yours.
To be effective with this technique, you need to first understand your own personality range. For some of us, it is quite wide and variant. For others, it may be more narrow. As an example, I consider myself to have a very wide personality range—I am very comfortable in matching both the very flamboyant and the very subdued. Each type is at an extreme end of my personality range. Most people, however, operate in a somewhat narrower personality range. The key is to be able to identify your personal bounds of comfort.

So what do we do if the person we meet with is talking a mile a minute? Should we try to artificially match that person, if it is outside of our personality range? Quite simply, no. To attempt to act like someone we are not would be faking it. and in the business world it can be a real killer. Some people end up getting sucked into this trap in order to get the job, then go through a continual living hell as they are forced to fake it for the duration of the job. Don’t do it. But you should be aware of what your personality range is and be willing to move fluidly within that range to accommodate the personality of the individual with whom you are meeting.

Personality matching does not mean perfect matching (it never is). It does mean that we should do our best to come as close as possible to matching the other person’s personality within the bounds of our own personality range. Keep in mind that there is no “perfect personality” (or perfect anything on this earth, for that matter). What is perfect to one will always be lacking in some way to another. Remember, perfection is relative to the recipient.

As a side note, think about someone you truly dislike. In most cases, it’s because the person is outside your personality range, usually in the upper extreme (too loud, too pushy, too cocky, too egotistical, too stuffy, etc.)—they are “too much” of something that you do not embrace in your own personality. If you have a “too much” area in your own personality, you are best advised to bring it under strict control, not only in interviewing, but in your life in general.

If you put into practice this one technique, you will likely increase your chances of success dramatically, and not just in interviewing. Personality matching is a technique you can use in virtually all areas of human communication."
