ABC NEWS SPECIAL: Why are so many black women unmarried?
ABC NEWS: Why are so many black women unmarried?
...Yeah ABC news recently did a special about this...it's interesting because I randomly saw this on youtube.com as I was searching for ken jeong videos & also saw somewhere else online recently where a writer from D.C. was trying to get her book picked up by a motion picture company.
The book also dealt with single black women in D.C. & was supposed to be similar to "sex in the city"...google & you can find the book I guess. I think it is doing pretty well...
***UPDATE*** I found the OG article about the author...
A lot of black women put up an exterior that says: “Everything is together. ‘I’m fine. Perfect. Don’t worry about me. Keep it moving.’ That is the trend,” Andrews says. “Put on new stilettos. Put on a mask of bitchiness.” But that image — prevalent in both the media and the workplace, Andrews believes — is one-dimensional.CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK

GOAT TV SHOW: NY UNDERCOVER
GOAT TV SHOW: NY UNDERCOVER
GOAT TV SHOW: NY UNDERCOVER...before The Wire of course...I'm approaching 25 years old and it doesn't seem like they made certain things like they use to. Wu-Tang Clan during the opening of this episode FTW. NY Undercover Theme FTW also.
taken from wiki...
New York Undercover, originally known as Uptown Undercover,[1] is notable for being the first police drama on American television to feature two people of color in the starring roles.[2] In contrast to the popularity of NBC's "Must See TV" on Thursday nights in the 1990s, many African-American viewers flocked to Fox's Thursday night line-up of Living Single, New York Undercover, and Martin. In fact, these were the three highest rated series among Black households (in this respective order) for the 1996-1997 season. Besides solving each week's case, the show, produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, also explored the private lives of its characters.
Each episode of the first three seasons of New York Undercover featured several hip hop and R&B songs for its soundtrack, with noted musician-producer James Mtume serving as musical director.
Each episode during Seasons 1 through 3 began with a montage of scenes leading up to the crime to be investigated. These sequences were notable for the absence of any dialogue or sound effects and are accompanied instead by music, usually hip-hop or R&B. This method of introducing the plot was dropped in the fourth season.
At some point during each episode, one or more of the principal characters would end up at Natalie's, a popular New York R&B café owned by Gladys Knight's character Natalie, where a popular artist would perform a set. Among the artists featured on the show during its run were Aaron Neville, New Edition, Amel Larrieux, Johnny Gill, Levert, The O'Jays, Montell Jordan, Aaliyah, Chaka Khan, Groove Theory, Erykah Badu, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, George Benson, Boyz II Men, Mary J. Blige, Xscape, The Notorious B.I.G., Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, 112, Monifah, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, George Clinton, Brandy, Tevin Campbell, the P-Funk All-Stars and others. The two exceptions were a first-season episode, where The Notorious B.I.G. performs at a rap concert, and the two-episode third-season premiere, where Kirk Franklin and the Family portray a church choir.

Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Hip hop's perennial dark horse, Mos Def received inconsiderable critical acclaim for his latest album entitled The Ecstatic. Surprising? Not in the least but there's absolutely no doubt that this album is easily one of 2009's most slept on. Looking for gritty soul beats, and eerie production? The Ecstatic's got your fix. Chad Hugo,Preservation, J.Dilla, and Madlib provide auditory sustenance to the soundtrack. Supermagic is the latest video from the Ecstatic. Enjoy...

Ski teams up with Jim Jones and Curren$y for "Aerial"(video)
We've got something awesome brewing in hiphop.DD172. & Creative Control.
Creativity has always been a mainstay of the culture and although this hasn't received much mainstream notoriety, this is hip hop at it's purest form. Inspiring creativity. You can tell there is extra effort put forth by Camron's frenemie to craft a stellar verse with Curren$y at DD172, which is presumably one of the newest facets of the most emulated culture on Earth.
Following up his Blakroc project with rock group, The Black Keys along with several other artists such as the aforementioned Capo, Mos Def, and Pharaohe Monch, Damon Dash is making moves once again. This time he's doing it differently. That's right, the man famous for being a 1/3 partner in establishing the legendary now defunct label Roc-A-Fella Records, parading around in their music videos pouring champagne on models, and creating signature dance moves that rival those by P. Diddy, Dame Dash is again near the center of hip hop.
It's easy to focus on the negative but one thing you cannot deny is Dame's business savvy, as shown in his newest ventures, DD172 and Creative Control. A multi-level studio in New York City's, Tribeca area(?), DD172 is also the home of an art gallery and several other media businesses. Mos Def, Curren$y, and Jay Electronica became "Center Edge Theory" in this complex, which made major waves once that story broke. As for Creative Control, think of it as a new outlet for artists from "Wack World", word to Q-Tips Industry rule # 4080. By using a web presence, directors Coodie & Chike, give innovative behind the scenes looks into the industry, injecting the appreciation for aesthetics back into the culture.
As creativecrontrol.tv continues to gain an increasing amount of web traffic and DD172 continues to bring about interesting collaborative efforts for musicians that we wouldn't imagine working together or we may not have even heard of, lets hope as members of the most emulated culture that more talented artists begin to take notice, pushing themselves artistically and become inspired to create.

Aint this, Aint that..Hip Hop or Rap
I been a lot of kicks here lately and one of them is lying..nothing with the personal people I know, just ish going on in life..ya know?
And I aint gonna lie..I like bubble gum rap. I like it for its pureness, yea the lil boys are raunchy, and yea it seems strange that the lil girls like it. But you cant say them non-complex beats aint hard..if you do..UR A JERK!
Then there's "crack rap" vs. "conscious". I understand that if a rapper never sold a pack then thats not what he should rap; but you cant say that man doesn't at least know of people who sell the packs..and at least he understands enough about fantasy sells to pen stories about that lifestyle. (the argument of influence can wait). Conscious rap plays to the other end of the fantasy..but his album was bought at walmart..not any local record shop (yes ppl 20 and under..there were record shops). Even Common was tryna get head on a track w Kid Cudi..we're all human!
So those few points were made to say this..if you cant see the consciousness in crack rap (or artists know for) in at least a few lines, then what are you listening to? Watching for the police carries the same amount of stress that any other persons regular job would (or more). If you cant see the odd side of conscious rap then what are you listening to? Who the hell keeps repeating that they aint about getting money. And when did hip hop entail bragging about fears and being extra emotional? (KG, you know we been over this)
Now with the progressiveness of hip hop, some can even argue that some of this new stuff aint hip hop, but above and beyond!!! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!? This is our art form, and people are making arguments that they just soooooooo space age they hovering over hip hop?!? I wont touch on that subject, but this is eevidence of our art form pulling apart like string cheese!!
Moral of the story: Listen, listen hard..the form is one that you can make of it what you want. So use your imagination and see different angles for an end result, and understand there is no real answer..its art.
